Help us put everything into it
The fastest growing city economy in Yorkshire. A major town centre regeneration in the pipeline, along with 1,000 new homes. An overall ‘good’ Ofsted rating for children’s services. Clearly, Rotherham is changing. Driving this change is a council that’s passionate about putting Rotherham on the map for all the right reasons. Now you’ll take us even further by bringing the same commitment, tenacity and ambition to this critical role.
Integral to progress
This is our most senior people management role and you’ll be part of our Leadership team. As we continue to change and improve, your skills and knowledge will be essential. We’re looking for outstanding HR support in the shape of high-level advice on workforce matters: guidance on both future strategy and organisational change processes. This means challenging, negotiating and influencing to shape change and make it happen.
At the same time, you’ll be leading our HR Business Partnering, HR Consultancy, Organisational Development and our HR Shared Service Centre. But team management is just the beginning. We want you to build a coherent model that offers benefits and a clear plan to achieve them. With your expertise, you’ll bring better ways of working that come with lower costs. Our Shared Service Centre is a key target for development and you’ll see scope for evolution.
A trusted adviser
To provide the robust, specialist guidance that our Council needs, you need to be CIPD-qualified with diverse HR experience. You’ll have gained this in senior management roles, managing people, performance and budgets. However, your success depends on smart strategic planning and delivering large-scale transformation. To join us, you must be a highly driven professional who can manage change and see our vision for the future.
With the communication skills to explain, advise and influence, you’ll inspire trust and achieve progress through effective partnerships.
This is an exciting time to join Rotherham. You can look forward to all the satisfaction of building on the changes we’ve already made, reinforcing our momentum and driving further progress. It’s a receptive, enthusiastic, collaborative environment in which to make your mark. The more tangible rewards are highly attractive too and include a relocation allowance of up to £8,000 on top of your salary.
To arrange a time for a confidential discussion, please contact Liz Athorn PA to Shokat Lal, Assistant Chief Executive directly on 01709 822773.

In order to support the Council’s requirement to save a further £41 million from its budget, by collective agreement, from 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2020 there is a temporary 1.15% pay reduction from the advertised substantive salary quoted, which will be spread out by means of a weekly/monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part time workers and new starters in year) will be granted.
This post will have access to the Public Services Network, if successful you will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records check at the Basic level (unspent criminal convictions).
