The Duty Service is made up of 5 teams who undertake assessments on new referrals across the Borough. The service operates a 5 week duty rota and each team spends one week on duty, allowing the 4 following weeks to complete assessments and other tasks associated. As the team manage all incoming assessments, this will include S47 investigations; initiating care proceeding; accommodating children; private law reports; risk assessments; pre birth assessments; Legal gateway meetings following PLO processes. Work is varied and complex.
This post is specifically for a Team Manager in the Duty Service.

Our Team Managers lead social worker teams within Children’s Social Care. As such they are the lynch pins in our organisation: leading and supporting our people in the field and carrying out the day-to-day management of services to our children and young people. Reporting to Service Managers, our Team Managers play a crucial role, dealing with staff at all levels, interpreting and communicating feedback and providing an important, positive interface for their practitioners, in a multi-agency environment. This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced, flexible and dedicated social workers in a managerial role, to really make a difference for Rotherham’s Children and their families.
You will have experience of managing a team within a Child Protection service with a particular specialist knowledge and interest in the pace and complexity of duty work.
You will motivate your team to achieve timely and quality outcomes for our children, ensuring a sound understanding of risk, working closely with partner agencies.
You will be skilled in quality assuring the work of the team, ensuring that information is accurate and analytical and meets legislative requirements.
You will be able to take a key role in planning and improving services
You will be used to undertaking workload and caseload reviews and audits
You will be empathetic and sensitive to the needs of those reporting to you, treating people with fairness and respect
You will know how to measure and monitor to ensure everyone performs at their best
You will be robust enough to deal with complaints or incidents diplomatically
You will be an influential negotiator when dealing with potential conflict
You will have a knack for communicating complex messages in a straightforward way
