After the closing date for the post, the recruitment and selection panel will read all the applications thoroughly and decide which applicants best meet the criteria specified in the person profile. If you are one of those applicants we will contact you as soon as possible to invite you to the selection/interview process.
If a lot of people meet the essential shortlisting requirements of the person profile (* indicates shortlisting criterion) we may use other assessment methods such as tests or other desirable requirements listed on the profile.
Under our commitment to good practice, disabled applicants will be invited to the selection process if they satisfy the essential shortlisting criteria. However, they will have to undertake the secondary shortlisting assessment methods at the selection process.
If you are not successful on this occasion you will receive notification of this on your homepage. However we hope this will not stop you from applying for another job with us in the future.
The selection process
If you are invited to the selection stage we will contact you (normally via email) to confirm all the arrangements (date, time etc.). If you think you will be unable to attend on that day or time we will try and re-arrange your appointment - if possible.
We will let you know what you are required to bring along, such as proof of qualifications, documents to support your right to work in the UK etc.
The selection process itself may contain a number of assessments depending on the level and complexity of the job. This could include:
- Written exercise
- Personality questionnaire
- Ability test
- Job related test
All our people who are involved in the recruitment process have been specially trained and are authorised to carry out the selection process on behalf of the Council. They will try and put you at ease and also be friendly and fair.
A minimum of two people will be involved to ensure fairness. However, for more senior posts there may be more.
The important thing to remember is the selection stage is very much a two-way process. It’s as much about you finding out if working with us would work for you as us deciding if you’re right for the role.
So please ensure you’ve read through everything carefully and are prepared to both answer and ask questions about the role and your suitability for it.
After the selection process has been completed, the panel members will look through their interview notes and the results of any other assessments you may have been asked to do and decide who best meets the person profile for the job.
